Rockets Action Summary – Rockets Come Up Short In Lone Weekend Game

Just a single road game for the Rockets last weekend, as they journeyed south to the Elk Valley to tangle with the Fernie Ghostriders.  The club looked to solidify their hold on third place in the Eddie Mountain Division, with Fernie hot on their heels.  The team was coming off a great win over Kimberley the previous Saturday, and was looking to continue on their winning path.

Saturday, Jan.14th,2023   Fernie 3  Rockets 0

For the first time this season, the Rocket’s offensive attack was effectively grounded by the opposition defence, as the local club came out on the shortend of a 3-0 decision.  Of note, is that the last time Golden came up empty-handed in a game, was just under a year ago, when at home last Jan.22nd, Nelson prevailed in a 4-0 decision.

This contest was very tight over the first forty minutes, with Fernie clinging to a slim 1-0 lead.  The Ghostriders veteran trio of Kort Kisinger, Ethan MacDuff and Scott Sinclair did all the damage in the game, with MacDuff striking in the opening period, and Kisinger adding a pair of goals in the third period.

A rash of Golden penalties in the 3rd period prevented any sort of Rocket comeback, with the penalty-kill units getting lots of work.

With the win, Fernie moves into a tie with Golden for third place in the tough Eddie Mountain Division, each currently with 41 points.  Golden has one game in hand.

Final score was 3-0.  Rockets were outshot 55-26.

Next contest for the Goldenites is Tuesday, Jan.17th at home against the visiting Creston Valley ThunderCats.
