Stefan Bodtker of the Golden Rockets has committed to play for the University of Jamestown Jimmies in the American Collegiate Athletic Association next fall.
Bodtker, 19, a Calgary native, registered 19 assists in 44 regular season games.
“I’m excited to be a part of a great hockey program and school where many KIJHL players have done well in past seasons,” said Bodtker, who spent two seasons with the Rockets. “This season I was really able to improve my skating ability. Gaining speed with and without the puck was something I was focused on developing.”
Bodtker credited his time in Golden for being crucial in his development as a player and person.
“Playing for a tight knit team under a solid coaching staff pushed me to improve my skills and be a good teammate,” he said.
Rockets head coach-general manager Jed Houseman said for the past two seasons, Bodtker has been an outstanding individual to coach.
“He always has a tremendous work ethic on and off the ice. The University of Jamestown is fortunate to land a player with an elite level skating ability, and even better character as a person,” said Houseman. “Bodtker has developed a lot in the last couple of seasons, and I think that trend will continue as he grabs more confidence year over year. He has proven to be an impactful defenceman at the KIJHL level, but he was also impactful as a teammate and leader. We are very excited for him to join the Jimmies, and wish him all the best in his college career.”
