Tuesday, November 23rd, 2021 Creston 4 Rockets 3 (OT)
Exactly one-month prior (Oct.23rd), the Rockets travelled to Creston and were met with a high-flying ThunderCat team, dropping a 7-2 decision. Different script this time.
Although still coming out on the short end of the final score, the Rockets were in this one all the way, skating stride-for-stride with the opposition, and coming back from a 3-1 deficit with six minutes left in regulation to force the overtime session.
This contest was evenly matched through the entire game. The clubs played to a scoreless draw in the opening twenty minutes, and then traded markers in the middle stanza. Golden’s tally came off the stick of lanky forward Drayden Gibson, converting on a play from Zac Siudy and Brydon Foster.
In the final period, Creston moved into a 3-1 lead, with two goals in two minutes (one shorthanded). That lead held until just under six minutes remaining in the game, when the Rockets caught fire and replied with two markers of their own in 120 seconds, with a Brydon Foster powerplay goal at 14:15, and a Connor Funke equalizer at 16:15. That sent the teams into the overtime.
In the extra session, the ThunderCats held the Rocket attack at bay, and managed to find the winner at 1:21.
Final score was 4-3. Creston outshot the Rockets 35-30. Nonetheless, Rockets pick up a valuable single point in the tight Eddie Mountain Divisional standings.
The second half of this home-and-home series with Creston will take place Friday night, November 26th at the Plywood Palace.
