Rockets Action Summary – Rockets Road Trip November 12th, 2021

Friday, November 12th, 2021   Rockets 6   Beaver Valley 3

A measure of revenge from the previous Saturday for the Rockets in this game.  Rebounding from a November 5th overtime loss to the NiteHawks at the Plywood Palace, the local stars put together a strong and balanced performance, particularly in the second period, to double-up Beaver Valley on their home-ice, by a score of 6-3.

It didn’t start out as planned in this contest, with Beaver Valley taking a quick 1-0 lead just :20 seconds after the opening face-off.  Rockets regrouped just as quick and, despite being outshot in the period 19-9, managed to find the equalizer at 11:04 when Connor Funke and Nathan Kaye combined to setup Henry Loewen for his 7th goal of the season.

In the second period, Connor Funke again worked his magic at the 8:27 mark, with Jordan Lario and Nathan Kaye picking up assists.  The NiteHawks tied things up briefly at 16:31, however the rest of the period belonged to the Rockets, as they struck for a pair of tallies to move into a 4-2 lead.  At 18:28 Golden’s leading scorer Jordan Lario neatly finished off a play from Brydon Foster and Nicolas Regan.  Then, with just :08 seconds left in the period on the power play, Nathan Kaye collected his third assist of the game and, along with Connor Funke’s third point as well, the duo worked the puck to Andrew Teare, who made no mistake hitting for his first goal of the season.

In the third period the teams traded goals in the initial action early, with Brydon Foster finding the back of the net for the Rockets, to run the score to 5-3.  Not to be outdone by his brother, a second Rockets powerplay goal at 18:04 by Derek Teare (with assists to Jock Michael and Aidan Balance) sealed the deal on this game with a 6-3 Rockets win.

Saturday, November 13th, 2021    Castlegar 4   Rockets 1

After an impressive victory the night before in Fruitvale, the Rockets found themselves in Castlegar Saturday evening to take on the Rebels.  It proved to be a very different scenario as this game unfolded, as Castlegar controlled much of the play throughout the game, effectively shutting down much of the Rocket’s offense.

Taking period leads of 1-0 and 2-0, the Rebels had things pretty much their own way.  Connor Funke’s 4th tally of the year at the 9:00 mark of the third period ( a shorthanded effort on a Nicolas Regan assist) ran the score to 2-1 for a short time, before the opposition found a pair of goals before the final whistle.

Final score was 4-1 for Castlegar, who outshot the Rockets 48-22.  It was the first start of the season for Rocket’s rookie netminder Colton Day, who was tested early (and often), coming up with many outstanding saves, keeping his team in the game.
