Rockets Action Summary – Rockets Prevail In Tough Divisional Battle

Saturday, Jan.21st, 2023  Rockets 2  Kimberley 1

To say this season’s five previous contests between the Golden Rockets and Kimberley Dynamiters have been close and exciting, would be a huge understatement.  To date, the largest margin of victory is a 3-0 Rockets’ shutout win last November.  The last three games between these clubs were each decided by a single goal, and Saturday’s matchup in Kimberley followed the identical script once again.

The Rocket’s Levi Hall and Nitro’s Matt Fleet were locked in a goaltenders’ duel.

Golden had the edge in play in the opening period, outshooting their opposition 10-5.  The Dynamiters however, went to the dressing room with a 1-0 lead, on the strength of an Ethan Bloomquist goal at 6:02.

In the middle stanza, Kimberley’s offense came alive, firing no less than 15 drives from all angles, all of which were expertly turned aside by Levi Hall.

In the final period, Golden wasted little time deadlocking the game at 1-1.  Kade Cochlan needed just :25 seconds to finish off a great play from teammates Dominic Fiorentino and Nathan Kaye.  Six minutes into the period,Kimberley was on the powerplay looking to regain the lead, but a pair of minor penalties in less than one minute swung the man-advantage over to Golden at 8:31.

     And the Rockets responded!

A scant :28 seconds into the KickingHorse powerplay, Jordan Lario found the back of the net on a smooth play with Ethan Aebly and Levi Lamotte.

That proved to be all the scoring in this one, as the Rockets defensive corps held strong the rest of the way, to take a 2-1 victory.  Kimberley outshot Golden 32-24.

The season series between the two teams is now deadlocked at three wins apiece.  Rockets next game is Tuesday, Jan.24th in Invermere.
