The Kootenay International Junior Hockey League is pleased to announce its Team of the Week for the period ending Dec.14.
Forwards
Jackson Roberts – Golden Rockets
The Cranbrook native recorded four goals and seven points in two games. He was a huge factor in their hard-fought battle against the Chase Heat with a hat-trick and five points in a 9-8 overtime loss. He played an average of 18:41 a game and was +6.
JP Desabrais – Williams Lake Mustangs
The Red Earth Creek, Alta., native had two goals and six points in two games and was excellent defensively being +8 while playing an average of 17:11 a game. He was an offensive force in their 8-1 win over the Chase Heat, collecting five points and setting up the winning goal by Declan Pocock. This is Desabrais’ second Team of the Week selection.
Levi Astill – Grand Forks Border Bruins
The Edmonton native had three goals and two assists in two games as they shutout the Beaver Valley Nitehawks 1-0 and Nelson Leafs 8-0. He recorded his first hat-trick of the season, including scoring the winner, and had four points in their win over the Leafs. He also set up the winner against Beaver Valley. He was +6 while playing 20:37 a game. It’s Astill’s second straight Team of the Week selection.
Defence
Logan McCabe – Grand Forks Border Bruins
The Edmonton native had four assists, including setting up the insurance marker, in their 8-0 win over Nelson. He was +6 while playing 24:22.
Dawson Rowse – Williams Lake Mustangs
The rookie hometown product had a goal and four points in two games. He was a factor in their 3-0 win over Osoyoos scoring the winning goal and adding an assist. He was +3 and played an average of 16:38.
Goalie
Thomas Samborski – Grand Forks Border Bruins
The Grande Prairie, Alta., native had an excellent weekend posting consecutive shutouts against the Beaver Valley Nitehawks and Nelson Leafs. He saved 59 shots. Samborski’s first shutout came in a 40-save effort against the Nitehawks in a 1-0 win.
