Just a single game last weekend for the Golden Rockets in KIJHL action, and once again, a balanced attack of offensive speed and defensive power led to a decisive victory.

Saturday evening, the Sicamous Eagles were in town to battle the local stars before a boisterous home crowd. The visitors were caught napping in the early going, as Rocket Hayden Iron Shirt needed just under two minutes to get Golden on the scoreboard.

A second Iron Shirt tally came midway through the middle period, as the lanky winger neatly finished off a play from linemates Alexander Kwong and Brett Krawchuk.

The final period belonged to Golden. Although Sicamous managed to hit for the first and last goals of the frame, the Rockets hit for a trio of markers in between, from Hayden Iron Shirt (with his hat-trick goal), Ben Holden converting a Griffin Brown pass, and Chase Pilling striking for his second goal of the young season.

Final score was 5-2. Golden took nine of the seventeen penalties assessed by referees Jarrod Teindl and Gerald Hofferd.  Beck Boiteau was again strong between the pipes for the local stars, turning aside 24 Eagle drives.

Our congratulations to Rockets’ versatile Boiteau, who, on the strength of his outstanding performance between the pipes versus the Grizzlies on opening weekend, was recently named as the Top Goaltender on the “KIJHL’s Team Of The Week.”

The Rockets currently sit tied for first place in the Eddie Mountain Division with the Kimberley Dynamiters.

A big weekend on the road for Golden is coming up, as the club heads to the Cariboo for three key contests against Doug Birk Divisional squads.

Friday night, the team will be in Quesnel to tangle with the River Rush. Saturday, they will make the journey south to Williams Lake to match skills with the Mustangs, before finishing the lengthy trek over to 100 Mile House for a Sunday afternoon meeting with the Wranglers.
