Golden Rockets Come Up Short in Weekend Play

The Golden Rockets had one road and one home game last weekend, where the high-intensity action was prevalent against a couple of powerful squads.  Despite skating stride-for-stride with the opposition for much of the way, the offensive attack sputtered at times, and the Rockets came out on the short end of both games.

Friday night in Creston, the contest unfolded as one would expect. End-to-end action at a crisp pace for the first two periods that saw Golden ahead on the scoreboard 4-3. Creston managed to connect first with a Ti Regan goal near the end of the opening frame. However, the Rockets needed only 27 seconds into the middle stanza to deadlock the game, with a Brett Krawchuk marker.

The remainder of the period belonged to Golden. Consecutive goals by Brandon Spilchen, Jackson Folliott and Brayden Bissell were countered by only a pair of Thunder Cat goals, as Golden moved into the lead.

But penalty trouble in the final period allowed Creston to utilize their high-percentage power play, and they took full advantage with a trio of goals en route to an eventual 7-4 win.

Saturday evening at the Plywood Palace, the Rockets hosted the smooth-skating Princeton Posse.  Try as they might, the Golden offence just couldn’t find the range in this contest, as the Posse defence was strong for the full sixty minutes, leading to a 3-0 victory for the western club. Beck Boiteau in the Golden cage was kept busy all game and, despite the loss, was stellar, turning aside no less than 45 Posse drives.

The Rockets will be looking to get back into the win column this weekend, with a couple of key home games against divisional rivals. Friday, the club will entertain the Fernie Ghostriders, and Saturday will see a rematch with the Creston ThunderCats.
