The final home game of the regular season came on a Sunday afternoon at the Golden Rec Centre, as both the Rockets and the visiting Creston Valley Thundercats gear up for the post season.  While this contest didn't mean a great deal in the way of standings, the action on the ice proved once again to be another exciting matchup.

Rockets came away after the opening twenty minutes with a solid 2-0 lead.  Captain Darren Andre opening the scoring at 1:53, finishing off a terrific three-way passing play from linemates Keith Wake and Kyle Garcia.  At the 8:56 mark, the Golden powerplay needed only eleven seconds into their man-advantage to extend their lead, when Aiden Nisse let go a powerful point shot that found its way through a maze of players in front of the Creston net, to run the score to 2-0.

No scoring in the middle stanza, however both netminders (Creston's Michael Hails and Golden's Schamerhorn) were sparkling at their respective ends of the ice, coming up with several tremendous saves apiece.

In the final frame, both teams turned up the action, and the Golden fans were treated to exciting end-to-end play which kept them on the edge of their seats.  Creston Captain Scott Swiston finally managed to get one by Jarrod Schamerhorn at the 17:01 mark, but that was all the visitors could manage, as Golden went on for a 2-1 victory.

The Rockets played as solid a game as we have seen this year.  Defensively, there were few mistakes, and the defence was able to challenge opposition forwards at their own blueline with consistency.  The Rockets powerplay hit for the winner, and the team looked very good with their other man-advantage situations.  All the Rockets lines were flying this afternoon, as the club maintained a fast-pace for the entire sixty minutes.  As we enter the post-season this upcoming weekend against Fernie, the squad will be looking to keep up their solid play of late.  The team finished the regular season with three great wins.

Opening games in the first round will go Feb.24th/25th in Fernie, with Games 3 and 4 set for the Golden Rec Centre next Monday/Tuesday, February 27th/28th.
