Rockets vs Kimberley February 5th, 2012
With only a handful of games left in the regular season, the Rockets will finish in fourth place in the Eddie Mountain Division but have yet to have their post-season rivals finalized. Until such time, each and every game in February will serve as a good tune-up for the playoffs, as the Goldenites will be looking to head into the 'second season' in high gear.
Sunday afternoon's matchup against Kimberley opened up with a fast-paced first period, in which the Rockets skated stride-for-stride with the Nitros. In fact, at the horn, the locals were full value for their 2-1 lead. It took the Rockets just 1:30 to hit for their first marker, on a textbook tic-tac-toe passing play from Kyle Garcia to Darren Andre to Keith Wake and, despite the Field veteran being stopped on his quick shot, Kyle was streaming in from his left wing position, to bang home the rebound.  At 5:41, Kimberley's Richard Hubscher (who is in a battle for the league scoring title) made no mistake from the top of the slot, to deadlock the contest. Before the period ended, the Rockets hit on the powerplay, when Dallas Flockhart won a clean draw at the faceoff circle, and Jacob Bergeron's patented snapshot hit the back of the twine.
In the middle period, a pair of Kimberley powerplay goals (both by lanky Rylan Duley) moved the visitors into a 3-2 lead after forty minutes. Rockets were badly outshot in the period, but the heroics of Cole Henson in the Golden cage kept the local stars in the game.
In the final period, Henson was again tested time and again from point blank range, and was sensational, coming up with highlight reel saves. Kimberley did manage to get one past Cole (Connor Kutzner) at the 14:54 mark, to salt away a 4-2 win.
Final home game for the Rockets is slated for February 19th (Sunday afternoon) against the Creston Valley Thundercats at the Golden Rec Centre. The Rockets remaining games are all on the road.
